Our History
The JAG Story
JAG’s history dates back to 2009, when fifty outside school hours care (OSHC) services in four states in Australia came together to form OSHClub. In 2016 OSHClub merged with Helping Hands Network (HHN), creating an alliance of Australia’s two highest quality providers of OSHC under the banner of JAG. Primary OSHCare joined the network two years later in 2018. JAG went global the following year when we commenced the acquisition of businesses in New Zealand, the UK and Ireland. All of our services now deliver the same high-quality program which has been developed in partnership with industry experts and benefits from the knowledge built up through our global presence. We now have over 5,000 staff delivering services across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Ireland. They are backed by an organisation that has a long and proud heritage of providing exceptional care to children.
What makes us different?
Our Play-Based Pedagogy
JAG has developed its programs with a commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 31 recognises ‘the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts’. Following these principles, all of our programs are underpinned by a framework developed by a panel of external experts in childhood development and best-practice playtime, including Robyn Monro Miller AM, president of the International Play Association and CEO of Play Australia. OSHClub programming closely aligns to My Time, Our Place, Australia’s national framework for school age care designed to extend and enrich children’s wellbeing and development in school age care settings. JAG has 230+ educational activities and experiences that fit into seven adventure categories. They have been carefully constructed based on findings from our research partners. With such extensive and well-resourced programs, our educators can focus on providing fun, stimulating adventures for the children.
Our School Partnership Model
We understand the importance of a seamless and effective transition from school to OSHC and vice versa. We know that your school’s culture and community are unique. Each of our services ensures that its program philosophy aligns to its school’s purpose, values and behavioural guidelines. We incorporate school-specific language and emphasise that school-wide expectations also apply at OSHC. OSHClub partnerships with school communities set us apart. Our focus is always on providing the highest-quality programs and services for children, giving the best possible support to families and adding significant value to school councils and communities. We achieve this through our school community partnership model, which results in greater integration and involvement in the school community when compared to a typical outsource model. OSHClub listens to your school community’s needs, ensuring we provide a personalised program that creates shared value for the community.
Safeguarding Children and Young People
Every child has the right to engage in play and recreational activities while also being protected from all forms of abuse, violence, bullying and exploitation. We believe that all children have the right to be safe and feel safe. Read our Safeguarding Children and Young People policy below to learn more.
